| An Opportunity for Bethel Voters |
| At last Bethel has the opportunity to complete our town hall restoration and begin using the building. It will require a "Yes" vote on Nov. 4, when a town hall bond question will be on a separate ballot. In January Bethel's town hall was one of only 40 buildings in the country to be awarded a grant from the Save America's Treasures program. To receive the $301,000, we must match that amount. The Bethel Selectboard , with input of the Bethel Town Hall Finance Committee, has decided to put forward a bond question for up to $900,000 (the board will decide on the final amount at their Sept. 22 meeting). Chairman Fox has said the Board does not want to keep going back to the voters on this project. Read more at the Herald of Randolph website: http://www.rherald.com/News/2008/0918/Letters/l05.html |

| Bethel’s Brick Store Will Re-Open |
| By Mary Anderson. Although Mary Floyd will once again be the proprietor, the new store will be somewhat different from the previous Brick Store, which closed one year ago. Floyd said she would "like to promote Vermont producers." As in the previous store, she will have crafts and food products made by local people. However, she is offering the option of letting people rent space from her in order to display their products. She expects to open with an assortment of locally made greeting cards, handmade baby blankets and sweaters, vintage and new quilts, herbal teas and body products, art work, photography, maple syrup, felted hats and hand-woven towels and scarves. | From Local Farms to Bethel Schools |
| Bethel Elementary and Whitcomb Jr.-Sr. High School students have been enjoying fresh local produce in the school cafeteria, due to the efforts of Sandy Gilderdale (Bethel Food Service Director), the Bethel Food Service Advisory Council, and VT-FEEDS (Food Education Everyday). On the first day of school, everyone in the cafeteria was treated to fresh local corn-on-the-cob supplied by local farmer Sam Lincoln. The job of husking the corn was completed by a group of senior high students and teacher Alec Hastings. On Tuesday, Aug. 26, the entire Bethel and Whitcomb faculty and staff participated in a series of farm to school workshops offered at the school by VT-FEEDS. The morning began with everyone processing the numerous local fruits and vegetables that would be part of the lunch menu. Staff members enjoyed making Asian cabbage salad, fruit with creamy yogurt dip, vegetable roll-ups, potato salad with lemon and garlic, and fresh hummus.
